Village of Fairport Launches Public Engagement Survey for Proposed DRI Projects

The Village of Fairport has opened a public engagement survey to gather community feedback on a range of proposed public and private projects that could be included in Fairport’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) application. The survey is open now through Friday, October 31st, and all are encouraged to participate, whether you live in the Village, the Town of Perinton, or simply visit Fairport to work, shop, or enjoy its recreational amenities.

The survey invites residents and visitors to share their opinions on potential projects such as the revitalization of Kennelley Park, infrastructure improvements for multi-modal transportation, the construction of a boutique hotel, and the redevelopment of unused industrial space to create a mixed-use residential and commercial area behind The Cannery. These and other proposed initiatives aim to enhance Fairport’s vibrancy, connectivity, and economic vitality.

The online survey can be accessed here. For those who prefer a paper copy, hard copies are available at the Fairport Public Library.

“As we fine-tune Fairport’s DRI application, it is essential that we hear from the people who live, work, and spend time here,” said Mayor Julie Domaratz. “The projects we put forward and the vision that guides them must truly reflect the collective point of view of our community. Every response helps us ensure Fairport’s future remains vibrant, inclusive, and connected.”

About the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI)

The Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is a New York State program that awards $10 million in grant funding to one community in each of the state’s ten economic development regions—Fairport is competing for the Finger Lakes region’s designation. The DRI is designed to transform downtown neighborhoods into vibrant, walkable centers that serve as magnets for economic growth, housing, and cultural activity.

Through the DRI, selected communities receive funding to implement strategic investment plans that advance economic development, improve public spaces, and enhance quality of life. Fairport’s application builds on the community’s strong foundation of economic vitality, walkability, and canal access, seeking to identify transformative projects that align with the community’s shared vision for an even more dynamic and sustainable downtown.

How to Participate

Visit www.FairportDRI.com to learn more about the initiative, review project concepts, and complete the survey by October 31st. Community input will play a crucial role in shaping Fairport’s DRI proposal and ensuring that local priorities drive future investments.
