The Village of Fairport Opens “Call for Projects” for Downtown Revitalization Application
The Village of Fairport is inviting the community to help shape the future of its downtown. The Village has opened its official “Call for Projects” as part of its application for New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). The submission period will close on Friday, September 26th.
The DRI is a competitive state program that awards funding to communities for transformative projects that strengthen local economies, create jobs, expand housing options, and enhance quality of life. In Fairport’s case, potential projects may range from public space improvements to new housing or mixed-use developments — both public and private proposals are encouraged. Ideas do not need to be fully vetted or designed at this stage; they can be early concepts with strong potential to contribute to the Village’s vision for a vibrant, thriving downtown.
“This is a rare opportunity to think big and work together on projects that will define Fairport’s next chapter,” said Bryan White, Village Manager. “We want to hear from every corner of the community. Residents, businesses, developers, and anyone who cares about keeping Fairport a place where people want to live, work, and visit are encouraged to contribute.”
To ensure residents, business owners, and developers can participate in the process, the Village is offering multiple opportunities for public engagement:
Business & Property Owner Information Session:
Wednesday, August 27th at 4:00pm, Village Hall Board Room
- Tailored guidance for property owners, developers, and business leaders interested in submitting potential private projects
Public Information & Feedback Opportunities:

A public survey will also be available later in the process to gather additional community input on potential projects. The survey will be open to all residents, business owners, and visitors, and will be promoted on the Village’s website and social media channels once it launches.
“The DRI is about setting a shared vision for Fairport’s future,” said Johnna McCooey, Executive Director of the Fairport Office of Community and Economic Development. “Whether your idea is a new public space, an improvement to your business, or something entirely different, this is your chance to have it considered as part of a transformational investment in our Village.”
