The Fairport Industrial Development Agency continues to invest in this unique urban wetlands which provides ecological benefits as well as a passive recreational space along the Erie Canal and the NYS Empire Trail.  This project proposes to make improvements to the entrance which will result in a more accessible, functional, user-friendly and aesthetically appealing experience for residents and visitors.

TIMELINE:

April 15, 2024 – The Fairport Industrial Development Agency Board awarded the bid for the Thomas Creek Wetlands Entrance Project that will enhance our community and provide safety improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists. Construction to begin shortly. The project was awarded to Wayside Contractors. The $109,445 cost of the project will be offset by a generous $50,000 grant from our partners the New York State Canal Corporation.

February 20, 2024 – Board voted to put the project out to bid. Bids will be due March 8th, to be reviewed by the Board at the March 18, 2024 meeting. Should the project be awarded, anticipating a construction start date of April 1st to ensure the project is completed by May 31, 2024.

January 25, 2024 – “Open House” conversation with the community. An informal presentation and question & answer session was held at Junction 361. Highlights included making connections to the trail system, educational opportunities, and volunteer opportunities.
